| 1. Number one and
most important. Submit an application every year or buy your bonus point.
After 5 consecutive years of applying, you will receive an extra "loyalty
point." 2. Apply for the most primitive weapon that you are willing to hunt
with. Remember, Arizona allows inline muzzleloaders, pelletized powder,
sabots, and scopes on muzzleloaders. They also allow almost any kind of
archery tackle as long as it is not a crossbow and there are no draw
locking devices. Please check the rules and regulations in regard to
your equipment before applying.

3. Be willing to
hunt during non-rut periods. Some fantastic hunting can be had when the
animals are in a more predictable daily pattern. The key is pre-scouting
your hunting area.
4. Take the Arizona Hunter Safety Class. You get a permanent bonus
point for taking the class.
5. Don't discount the excitement and challenge of a cow Elk or
Javelina hunt. These are a great way to insure yourself of a great
experience and a lot of fun.
6. Don't fall into the trap of applying for a hunt
because it offers the most tags. Just because there are 500 tags in unit
"X" and 100 tags in unit "Y" doesn't mean that your odds are better in
unit "X". It is probably just the opposite. |
